Man injured in ATV wreck

PUNCHEON – A Magoffin man is still in ICU after an ATV wreck last Friday.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11, a Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy was on patrol on Route 378 near the mouth of Puncheon when he observed a man driving an ATV go through a yard behind a trailer, up an embankment, then get ejected from the ATV, landing on the hillside, according to Magoffin County Rescue Squad Captain Carter Conley. 

The deputy called in the accident and the Magoffin County Rescue Squad and Trans-Star Ambulance services responded to the scene. Paramedics determined that he had traumatic injuries to his right side and was in severe pain, so Air Evac 118 of Air Medical responded, flying him to Pikeville Medical Center. 

A landing zone was set up with the help of the Middle Fork Volunteer Fire Department.

The man, from the Seitz area whose name has not been released, as of Tuesday was still in ICU and had fractures to three ribs and his right collarbone. 

Reportedly, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck.

The accident is still under investigation by the Magoffin County Sheriff Department.
