Miss Magoffin County Pageant Scheduled for Friday Night

The Miss Magoffin County Scholarship Pageant will be held Friday, Sept. 4, at 8:00 p.m. at the Prater’s Fort Cabins in Salyersville.
Pageant Director Jincy Bailey is elated to have five beautiful and talented contestants to compete for the crown of Miss Magoffin County 2010.
The contestants will compete in four competitions: judge’s interview, physical fitness in swimsuit, talent, and evening wear competitions.

The theme of this year’s pageant is a tribute to the movie “Dirty Dancing” featuring the Magoffin County High School Dance Team under the direction of Andrea Whitaker Allen. The show will also include many local entertainers.
The emcee for the evening will be WYMT weatherman and Salyersville native Jim Caldwell, who is making his 11th appearance as the pageant’s host.
The reigning Miss Magoffin County, Sarah Michelle Markland, will be featured throughout the evening and will crown the new Miss Magoffin County 2010.
 
The five young women vying for the title of Miss Magoffin County 2010 are:
 
Contestant # 1 Darvonna Christina Minix.
Darvonna is the 17 year old daughter of Chris and Burniece Minix of Salyersville. A freshman at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, she plans to major in counseling. For her talent she will perform a monologue from the movie “Underworld”. Her platform issue is Juvenile Arthritis.
 
Contestant # 3 Whitley Collins
Whitley is the 20 year old daughter of Tonia Collins of Salyersville. She plans to get a degree in cosmetology from Big Sandy Community and Technical College and become a cosmetologist. For her talent, she will perform a dance routine to “She’s Got the Look”. Her platform issue is “Substance Abuse Prevention”.
 
Contestant # 2 Ashley Nicole Conley
Ashley is the 23 year old daughter of Arlie Conley and Vickie Conley of Salyersville.
Employed by Nordin Eye Center, she plans to pursue a career in Opthalmology. For her talent she will sing the country ballad “Break Down Here.” Her platform issue is Motorcycle Helmet Awareness.
 
Contestant # 4 Christina Kay Cole
Christina is the 23 year old daughter of Patty and Benny Cole of Salyersville.
Currently employed by Connelley & Higgins Dentistry, she plans to become a dental hygienist. For her talent, she will perform a dance routine to “Dirty Dianna”. Her platform issue is “Caring for the Elderly.”
 
Contestant # 5 Dakota Howard
Dakota is the 18 year old daughter of Barry and Shella Howard of Salyersville. A Freshman at Morehead State University, she plans to pursue a degree in Imaging Technology and become a radiologic technologist. For her talent, she will perform a dance routine to “When I Grow Up”. Her platform is “Friends of Coal – Promoting Kentucky’s Coal Industry.”
 
The new Miss Magoffin County will win a $500.00 scholarship from the Miss Magoffin County Organization; a $500.00 scholarship from the Magoffin County Historical Society; a $1000.00 scholarship from Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg, Ky., crown, trophy, numerous prizes donated by area businesses and will advance to the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Pageant in Lexington, Kentucky.
