Pitts picks up district honor

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County senior center Cory Pitts wrapped up his high school basketball career in late-February. Pitts, who averaged a double figures in the scoring column throughout his senior campaign, has been named to the 57th District Press Association Second Team. 

Ranked No. 2 in the 2013-14 15th Region Preseason Boys' Basketball Player Rankings, Pitts averaged 15.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game for the Hornets during his senior season. 

Johnson Central senior Shane Hall was named the 57th District Press Association Boys' Basketball Player of the Year. Hall, a Kentucky Mr. Basketball Finalist who has signed with Marshall University, helped to lead Johnson Central to its third straight 15th Region championship. During his senior season, Hall averaged 17.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per game for the Golden Eagles, who reached the quarterfinals of the Boys' Sweet Sixteen State Tournament.

 

Veteran Johnson Central head coach Tommy McKenzie has been the 57th District Press Association Coach of the Year. McKenzie guided Johnson Central to its third straight 15th Region title. Johnson Central also continues to remain on top in the 57th District.

 
Joining Pitts on the 57th District Press Association Second Team are Braxton Blair (Johnson Central), Austin Chaffins (Lawrence County), Luke Daniels (Paintsville) and Brandon Richardson (Lawrence County). 

In addition to Hall, the 57th District Press Association First Team also features Slade McPeek (Johnson Central), Kyle Gullett (Johnson Central), Chase Parsley (Sheldon Clark), Dylan James (Sheldon Clark) and Robert Dalton (Lawrence County).
