SALYERSVILLE - With a highway repair project slated for this Saturday, long traffic delays and power outages are expected.

The Kentucky Department of Transportation District 10 office released Wednesday that a repair project is planned for Saturday, April 5, to repair a break on U.S. 460 near milepoint 10.5, which will be fixed by drilling steel. This location is west of Salyersville, between downtown and the Kentucky Route 30 intersection and the work is expected to take 10 to 12 hours to complete, according to the release.

Approximately 265 Kentucky Power customers in Magoffin will be affected by a mandatory power outage from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m., however, utility officials assure the Independent they will have a line crew on site Saturday and the power will be restored as soon as the road crew has completed drilling, according to Tim Hall of Kentucky Power.

The power outage will affect customers along U.S. 460 from the lower end of Dixie to the "Backbone Curve," just past North Magoffin Elementary, Hall said.

Drivers are encouraged to bypass the work location by using Kentucky Route 30 and the Mountain Parkway.
