Scott Castle named 15th Region Coach of the Year

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County head coach Scott Castle's coaching performance in t he 2013-14 season did not go unnoticed.

Last week, Castle was honored as the 15th Region Coach of the Year during a banquet held in conjunction with the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls' Sweet Sixteen Tournament in Bowling Green. The Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC) recognized the players and coaches of the year from each of the state's 16 regions during the state tournament. 

In his second season as head coach of the Magoffin County girls' basketball team, Castle guided the Lady Hornets to a 23-6 overall record. The Castle-coached Lady Hornets compiled a perfect regular-season district record. Talented Magoffin County finished runner-up to Johnson Central in the 57th District Tournament and reached the semifinals of the 15th Region Tournament.

The Lady Hornets' 2013-14 season also included a win over Franklin County, which was ranked in the state's Top 10 when the two teams met. 

"It's an honor to have received the coach of the year award," Castle said. "There were some very good coaches honored from throughout the state. I was fortunate enough to have some very good players and that's a lot of it."

Magoffin County senior guard Jamie Castle was honored as one of two 15th Region Co-Players of the Year.

6th Region Co-Coach of the Year: Chris Stallings, Bullitt East.
7th Region Coach of the Year: Frank Wright, Ballard.  
8th Region Coach of the Year: Kerrie Stewart, Trimble County.
9th Region Coach of the Year: Tony Perkins, Holmes.  
10th Region Coach of the Year: Rebecca Arnold , Augusta.
11th Region Coach of the Year: Joey Thacker, Franklin County. 
12th Region Coach of the Year: Julie Mason, Danville. 
13th Region Coach of the Year: David Teague, Bell County
14th Region Co-Coach of the Year: Dickie Adams. Letcher Central. 
14th Region Co-Coach of the Year: Ken Jones, Powell County. 
15th Region Coach of the Year: Scott Castle, Magoffin County.
