SALYERSVILLE - Two were arrested last week in conjunction with alleged stolen property.

According to the warrants of arrest, the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from Lucas Sparks that someone had broke into a truck and stole a wallet. Sparks told police that on August 21 he had been contacted by Christopher Howard and asked if he knew Ronald or Stephen Puckett and if he owed them any money.

Police contacted Howard, who told them that Ronald and Stephen Puckett asked him to cash a $225 check for them in exchange for clearing a $20 debt. He said he was provided a driver’s license belonging to Sparks, with the explanation that Sparks owed them $900 and had provided his driver’s license so they could cash the check without any problem. Howard stated he cashed the check and gave the money to Ronald and Stephen Puckett, who drove off in a green Pontiac Bonneville.

While the warrants were issued on September 12, according to the arrest citation, Ronald S. Puckett, 19, of Coal Branch Road, Salyersville was arrested on Tuesday, September 16 and charged with one count of receiving stolen property under $500.

The next day, on September 17, Stephen E. Puckett, 24, of Jim Arnett Branch, Salyersville, was arrested for the same charge.

The two were housed and released from Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, pending future court dates.
