Three Hornets earn preseason honors

SALYERSVILLE - Three Magoffin County football players have been tabbed Class 3A, District 7 Players to Watch by The Cats' Pause 2014 Kentucky Football Yearbook. Magoffin County seniors Ryan Jenkins (QB), Dalton Keeton (WR/CB) and Josh Poe (T/LB) are all listed as Class 3A, District 7 Players to Watch.

Breathitt County junior halfback/safety James Fletcher Collins has been named the 2014 Class 3A, District 7 Preseason Player of the Year. Fletcher delivered 1,369 all-purpose yards as a runner during his sophomore season as he helped lead Breathitt County to its ninth straight district championship. 

During his junior season, Jenkins completed 109 of 179 pass attempts for 1,941 yards and 17 touchdowns. The versatile Jenkins also rushed 81 times for 440 yards and nine touchdowns. 

Keeton reeled in 29 receptions for 590 yards and five touchdowns during his junior campaign. Defensively, Keeton contributed 60 tackles and an interception for the Hornets.

Poe helped to pace the Magoffin County defensive unit, exiting the 2013 season with 94 tackles. Up front along the Magoffin County offensive line, Poe helped to pave the way for a Hornet rushing attack that racked up 2,539 yards. 

Additional  players who have been labeled Class 3A, District 7 Players to Watch are Hunter Adams (Morgan County, Sr., QB/LB), Cody Byrd (Jackson County, Sr., FB/LB), Hunter Collins (Morgan County, So., QB), Cory Grigsby (Breathitt County, Sr., QB/LB), Austin Hundley (Jackson County, Sr., HB/S), Dylon Johnson (Knott County Central, Sr., HB/LB), Tyler Parks (Knott County Central, Sr., G/T), Jordan Turner (Breathitt County, Sr., TB/LB) and Braxton Whitmore (Breathitt County, Sr., WR/LB).
