Times set for Hornets' scrimmages

SALYERSVILLE - Times have been set for each of the Magoffin County football team's preseason games. Both of the Hornets' scrimmages will start at 7 p.m.

Magoffin County will face a pair of area rivals on the gridiron during the preseason. The Hornets are slated to battle Paintsville and Sheldon Clark in separate scrimmages in August, prior to the kickoff of the 2018 high school football season. Magoffin County will host Paintsville then visit Sheldon Clark. 

The Magoffin County-Paintsville scrimmage is scheduled for Aug. 3 in Salyersville.

The Magoffin County-Sheldon Clark scrimmage is slated for Aug. 10 in Inez.

Magoffin County opened preseason practice on Tuesday, July 10. The Hornets are under the tutelage of head coach Justin Combs.

A contender for the Class A state title, Paintsville also started its preseason practice on Tuesday, July 10. The Tigers are under the guidance of head coach Joe Chirico. 

Sheldon Clark returned to the gridiron shortly after the conclusion of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Dead Period as well. The Cardinals are under the direction of head coach Josh Muncy. 

Magoffin County is due to kick off the 2018 high school football season on the road at East Carter in a non-district matchup on Friday, Aug. 17. East Carter pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 36-6 in a 2017 high school football season opener. The Hornets are under the direction of head coach Justin Combs.
