SALYERSVILLE - Two were injured, including a 7-year-old boy, in an ATV accident over the weekend.

On Saturday, July 5, rescue crews were called to Jellico at approximately 5:30 p.m. The ATV hit a pole sticking out of the ground, but not visible in the dust, turning the side-by-side over.

The adult male riding sustained a dislocated shoulder and lacerations to his arm. He was treated and released from Paul B. Hall.

The 7-year-old male passenger had possible abdominal injuries, so first responders set up a landing zone, with fire crews using water to settle the dust to allow the helicopter to land. He was flown by Air Evac 18 to Cabell Huntington Pediatrics, where he was diagnosed with a lacerated liver, rescue officials said. As of Tuesday, he was recovering at home.

Magoffin County Rescue Squad, Magoffin County Sheriff's Office, Transtar, and North Magoffin Fire Department all responded to the scene.
