Two people from Salyersville injured in Johnson wreck

STAFFORDSVILLE – Two people from Salyersville were flown out after a two-vehicle wreck on KY Rt. 40 West in Johnson County Monday evening.

According to the release from Oil Springs Fire and Rescue, units were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision near the Downstream Area, also known as the Spillway, entrance. When crews arrived, entrapment was confirmed in both vehicles. 

After an extensive extrication, both drivers were extracted at the same time and transported to the Johnson County Middle School, where they were flown to Pikeville Medical Center. 

The drivers have been identified as Susan Barbee, of Salyersville, and Ed Howard, also of Salyersville. Barbee has reportedly undergone two surgeries and is still in serious condition and Howard has had one surgery and is in stable condition. Neither vehicle had any other occupants.

Oil Springs Fire and Rescue, Paintsville Fire Department and WR Castle Fire Department responded to the wreck, according to the release.
