James Mortimer III age 81 of Louisville, Ky. formerly of Magoffin County Ky. passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his home. He was born October 19, 1936 in Royalton, Kentucky to the late Henry Ritter and Frieda Lacy Mortimer.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Salyer King Mortimer, two sons, Dr. Jeffrey (Shannon) Mortimer of Lexington, Kentucky, James Christopher Mortimer of Georgetown, Kentucky, one daughter, Susan Renee Mortimer Adams of Salyersville, Kentucky, one step-son, John King, one step-daughter, Jeanie King, one brother, Douglas Lacy Mortimer of Salyersville, Kentucky, six grandchildren, Alex Mortimer, Mason Mortimer, Hannah Mortimer, Karrson Mortimer, Jamie Adams, and Brayden Adams, three step grandchildren, Deven King, Tanner King, and Mahala King - O'Bannon, and one great grandchild, Abigail Adams.
Jim was a devoted member of the Christian Church. He also served his community in several areas, such as serving two terms as President of the Kiwanis Club, serving on the Salyersville City Council, the Key Club, REACH, and he also served at the Magoffin County Justice Center as a deputy sheriff.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret June Potts Mortimer, and two grandchildren, Karrley Rye Mortimer, and Austin Adams.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm Saturday, January 20, 2018 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Hughes, Ben Martin, and Burnis Patrick officiating. Burial followed in the Bluegrass Cemetery at Salyersville, Kentucky.
Military rites were given by the Salyersville D.A.V. Chapter 15 the day of services.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.
