Jim Wesley "JW" Back, age 87, a resident of Montgomery Branch in Salyersville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
JW was born November 20, 1930 in Salyersville, Kentucky the son of Johnnie and Eulah Gullett Back. Also, preceding in death are brothers, Kenneth Back, Eugene Back, and sister, Millie Grimm.
JW served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after serving in the Korean War. After the military, he attended and graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelors Degree of Science. The Commonwealth of Kentucky employed him as a social worker until his retirement.
JW was a member of the Magoffin County Chapter Disabled American Veterans, Magoffin County Historical Society, and was active with the Magoffin County Senior Citizens Center in Salyersville, Kentucky. He was baptized and a member of the Burning Fork Community Church in Salyersville, Kentucky.
Those left to mourn includes wife, Martha Arnett Back, whom he married in July of 1957, of Salyersville, Kentucky, daughter, Luetta Dyer and husband Vint of Salyersville, Kentucky, son, Jeff Back of Salyersville, Kentucky, brother, Howard Harlow Back of Salyersville, Kentucky, sister, Margie Jo Adkins of Salyersville, Kentucky, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a host of family and friends who love and miss him.
Funeral services for Jim Wesley "JW" Back will be conducted on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM from the chapel of the Salyersville Funeral Home in Salyersville, Kentucky. Clergy Doug Dunn will deliver comforting words on the day of services. Burial will follow in the Roy Arnett Cemetery off River Road in Salyersville, Kentucky. The family will welcome friends Tuesday, January 2, after 6:00 PM, all day Wednesday, and any time prior to funeral services.
