SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County Public Library Board voted yesterday to accept the contract with Combs Trucking in the amount of $48,788 for phase 1 of the demolition project of the former Salyersville First Baptist Church building.
In a special-called meeting held on March 10, three members, Brent Patrick, Heather Ward and Barb Patrick, voted in favor of the demolition, while David May abstained from voting. Lana Blanton was not present at the special-called meeting.
Crews arrived this morning to begin work on the project, however, they were met with public opposition and inevitably vacated the premises.
Combs Trucking filed for a business license yesterday, March 10, paid $250 to the City of Salyersville and was issued a business license, however, the license was suspended this morning.
A telephone conference was held with Magoffin County Circuit Judge Kim Childers this afternoon, including attorney Ned Pillersdorf, who represents David May in an active civil suit against the Magoffin County Public Library Board, and attorney Michael Fox, who represents the library board. Though the content of the telephone conference is not public record, a hearing is scheduled for April 1 at 10 a.m. in the Magoffin County Circuit Courtroom.
Furthermore, Judge Childers ordered that the Salyersville First Baptist Church building is to remain untouched until the final disposition of the civil case.
