FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Fayette County had the state's lowest jobless rate in May at 7.7 percent.
The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training released county-by-county unemployment rates on Thursday, showing some areas where nearly one in five people were out of work.
Magoffin County had the state's highest rate at 19.7 percent, followed by Jackson and Menifee counties, both of which had rates of 17 percent or more.
Woodford was the only other county with a jobless rate below 8 percent.
The statewide jobless rate fell from 10.6 percent to 10.4 percent in May with five of 11 major job sectors reporting increases in employment.
The government sector, bolstered by temporary hiring by the U.S. Census Bureau, led the way with 3,400 new jobs.
