A strong Magoffin County start faded in the fourth and the host squad fell victim to Johnson County in 12-under Cal Ripken all-star tournament play Tuesday evening.
Magoffin County, when Cody Bailey singled, stole a base, and scored on a couple errant throws, claimed an early lead before Johnson County used a four run fourth inning to power a 6-3 victory.
Tyler Fitzpatrick doubled and scored in the second, giving Magoffin County a two-run cushion in back of Kyle Bailey, who proved dominate from the mound early.
Bailey allowed just one hit and struck out three through three innings, but Johnson County took the lead with three runs on three fourth inning hits and went up 4-2 with a single tally in the fifth.
Magoffin County, dropping to the loser’s bracket of the double elimination district event, squeezed out a run in the home half of the fifth when Kyle Bailey led off with a single and crossed the plate as Cody Bailey and Ethan Collins followed with singles.
Johnson County answered with some insurance in the sixth, though, plating a pair of runs to seal the deal as Magoffin County went down in order in the bottom of the final frame.
Cody Bailey and Fitzpatrick led Magoffin County with two hits apiece. Josh Poe had one hit, a fourth inning single, for the home team.
