SALYERSVILLE - Honors continue to roll in Magoffin County senior Jamie Castle. One of the state's top girls' high school basketball players, Castle was honored as the 15th Region Player of the Year last week during the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls' Sweet Sixteen Tournament in Bowling Green. Castle and Pikeville senior Rachel Potter were recognized as 15th Region Co-Players of the Year.

During her senior season, Castle led Magoffin County to a perfect regular-season 57th District record, a runner-up finish in the district tournament and into the 15th Region Semifinals.

Castle averaged 22 points, three assists, three rebounds and three steals per game for the Lady Hornets during her senior season. She has led the Magoffin County girls' basketball program in scoring since her freshman year.

Ranked as one of the state's Top 25 players prior to the start of her senior season, Castle will attend tryouts for the Kentucky All-Star team in April. She will announce her college choice later in the schoolyear.
