STABBING ON RT. 40

SALYERSVILLE - A Magoffin County woman is in jail with murder charges after a man was found stabbed to death in a home. 

Kentucky State Police reports officers responded Saturday, March 29 to a stabbing complaint on Falcon Road (on Kentucky Route 40). Upon arrival, KSP Trooper Zach Haney located 43-year-old Roy Huey Prater, of Prestonsburg, deceased from a single stab wound. 

The incident was reported Saturday morning, with arrests made Saturday afternoon.

Through the course of the investigation, Marie Minix, 42, of Salyersville was arrested and lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on one count of murder (domestic violence), according to KSP. 

According to the arrest citation, Minix admitted she stabbed Prater, her boyfriend. Arresting Officer Tony Tackett noted on the citation that, "It was not apparent self-defense." 

Minix's son, Kendell Wireman, 24, of Salyersville, was also arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence. According to his citation, he reportedly admitted to wiping the knife down and putting it back in the knife holder. 

Both Minix and Wireman pleaded not guilty on Monday, March 31 and are set for pretrial hearings on April 7.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Tony Tackett.

Funeral services for Prater were conducted from the Hall Funeral Home, in Martin, on Wednesday.
