Magoffin County beats Rebels for second straight win

It was so nice they decided to do it twice as the Magoffin County Hornets followed up a big district victory with a Saturday night win over Allen Central.
With Thursday’s win over Paintsville in the books, Magoffin County started fast Saturday and used a strong inside-outside presence to down the visiting Rebels 70-65.
Senior post player Casey Adams manned the paint while freshman point guard Nathan Howard did his thing on the perimeter.
Adams tossed in a game high total of 23 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Howard hit for 20 points and handed out six assists, giving him a total of 11 over the two-game winning stretch.
The Hornets, 5-13, also got strong support from junior guard Cody Sparks and senior guard Zach Harvey, who scored nine and eight points respectively.
Magoffin County, improving to 3-4 at John Sam Bailey Memorial Gymnasium, led 15-10 after the opening frame and took a three point advantage into intermission before opening up a six point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Joe Hall and John David Kazee added five and three points respectively to the winning effort while Nathaniel Tate rounded out Hornet scoring with two points.
Senior Chris Stumbo paced Allen Central offensively with 22 points. The Rebels saw their record dip to 4-11.
Magoffin County, after playing Tuesday at Betsy Layne, will remain on the road, traveling to Jackson City Thursday before going to Allen Central Saturday.
The Hornets are not scheduled to play again in front of the home folks until February 6 when they will host 57th District foe Johnson Central.
