SALYERSVILLE - Thus far in the Magoffin County Hornets’ 2016 season, sophomore Brady Whitaker has been a go-to receiver for senior quarterback Dillon Williams.
Through three games, Whitaker has hauled in nine receptions for 160 yards.
Other receivers with multiple catches for the Hornets are junior Ryan Mullins (four), senior Dalton Peters (three) and sophomore Matthew Watkins (two).
Williams has completed 20-of-37 passes for 278 yards. A dual-threat at the signal-calling position, Williams has rushed 42 times for 179 yards and one touchdown. Williams leads the Hornets in passing, rushing and tackling.
Magoffin County has been held scoreless in two of its three games. The Hornets will look to break out offensively in their next outings.
Williams and freshman Nick Caldwell have scored one touchdown apiece for former Class 3A, District 7 champion Magoffin County.
Defensively, Williams has posted a team-high 28 tackles, 18 of which were solo stops. Directly behind Williams in the Magoffin County defensive category, Mullins has posted 25 tackles.
Senior Brandon Hackworth leads the Hornets in interceptions. Hackworth has posted three picks.
Magoffin County has regular-season games remaining versus Betsy Layne, Morgan County, Pike County Central, Knott County Central, Breathitt County, Powell County and West Carter. The Hornets will visit Betsy Layne for a non-district game later in the week.
