SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County Hornets concluded the 2017 high school baseball regular season 13-6. Magoffin County split a pair of games over the final two days of the regular season.
The Hornets pulled away to beat host Powell County 10-6 in Stanton on Friday.
Magoffin County, however, exited the regular season with a loss.
Former 15th Region champion Prestonsburg pulled away to defeat visiting Magoffin County 14-2 in five innings in a regular season finale on Saturday.
Still, Magoffin County managed to outscore opponents 136-89 during the regular season. The Hornets have allowed the fewest runs (89) of any 15th Region baseball team thus far in the 2017 campaign.
High school baseball teams across the state entered the postseason earlier in the week.
Magoffin County was set to face nemesis Paintsville in the opening round of the 57th District Baseball Tournament at Johnson Central on Wednesday night. The Magoffin County-Paintsville postseason baseball matchup was rained out one night earlier.
