Lady Hornets fends off Sheldon Clark, 6-4: Magoffin County advances to district title game

PAINTSVILLE - Magoffin County edged Sheldon Clark 6-4 in the first round of the 57th District Softball Tournament at Johnson Central on Monday evening. 
With the win, Magoffin County evened its record to 11-11. The victory allowed the Lady Hornets to advance to the 57th District championship game and qualify for the 15th Region Softball Tournament. 
Sheldon Clark concluded its season 12-11 with the loss. 
Individual statistics from the Magoffin County-Sheldon Clark softball matchup were unavailable at press time. A complete recap of the Magoffin County-Sheldon Clark game will appear in next week's edition. 
In the other opening round game in the 57th District Softball Tournament, Johnson Central shut out crosstown rival Paintsville 10-0 in five innings. With the win over Paintsville, Johnson Central improved to 14-9. Paintsville, one of the winningest teams in the 15th Region, ended its 2017 season 25-12. 
Magoffin County was set to meet tournament host Johnson Central in the 57th District Softball Tournament championship game at Johnson Central on Wednesday evening. Results from the district tournament title game were unavailable at press time and will appear in next week's edition.
Winners and runners-up from the 57th, 58th, 59th and 60th districts will move on to the 15th Region Softball Tournament, which is scheduled for next week
