SALYERSVILLE - With less than a month left until the 14th annual Community Day, the musical lineup promises a big turnout for this year's event.
Community Day, slated for Saturday, August 19 at Ramey Memorial Park, is one of the largest fundraising events for Magoffin County's non-profit civic organizations.
The goal of Community Day is to raise money to benefit Magoffin County’s people through the various organizations. This year the Magoffin County Community Foundation has partnered with the Magoffin County School System. Young adults from the junior and senior classes will be given an opportunity to volunteer their time to help each of the participating non-profits while earning points toward possible scholarships.
Among this year’s participating organizations include – DAV, Magoffin County Senior Citizens, Christians Care Fund, Woman’s Club, Kiwanis, South Magoffin Community Activist Group, South Magoffin Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue Squad, Salyersville Fire Department, District 3 Volunteer Fire Department, Middle Fork Volunteer Fire Department, North Magoffin Volunteer Fire Department, Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department, Royalton Rail Trail Town, Miss Magoffin County Scholarship Organization, Boy Scouts Troop 862, the Civil War Committee and Mountain of Hope Christian Camp.
Every age bracket is represented in these eighteen groups. Imagine, one event Magoffin County Community Day, touching so many people in Magoffin County.
This year's activities will include food booths, bingo, and games for all ages, the ever-popular money machine, raffles and much more. Also planned is a huge line-up of music. Scheduled to appear are Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Dave Adkins, Edgar Loudermilk Band with guest Jeff Autry, Eldon Huff & Double Nickel, Waylon Bayes, Black Powder Express, Terry Miller and The Bridge and former Miss Magoffin 2016, Kathleen Smith. Also, kids with the popular Project Echo event will open up the event.
This will be Rhonda Vincent’s first performance at Community Day. She is a Grammy-nominated Bluegrass Queen, eight-time IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year, six-time Grammy Nominee, and part of the most awarded group in Bluegrass History!
Tickets remain at $10.00 and can be purchased at both branches of The Salyersville National Bank and at the gate the day of the event. Children under 12 will be admitted for free. Mark your calendars and bring your lawn chair.
