Magoffin County finishes 1-3 in Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament

PIKEVILLE - The Magoffin County Lady Hornets compiled a 1-3 record in the Pikeville-hosted Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament on Saturday. Magoffin County defeated Belfry while dropping games to Garrard County, Paris and East Ridge. 

Garrard County shut out the Lady Hornets 12-0 in six innings on the opening day of the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament on Friday.

Paris, a squad out of Central Kentucky, topped the Lady Hornets 6-1 in the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

In a closer matchup during the Pikeville-hosted high school softball tournament on Saturday, East Ridge edged Magoffin County 4-3.

Magoffin County managed to beat Belfry 9-6 during the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament on Saturday, notching its third win over the Lady Pirates in less than three weeks.

Magoffin County 9, Belfry 6: Magoffin County managed to knock off 15th Region foe Belfry 9-6 in the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament in Pikeville on Saturday.

The Lady Hornets outhit Belfry 12-10 and used a seven-run outburst in the top half of the fourth inning to claim the victory.

Kallee Hale, Samantha Black and Erin Bolen led the Magoffin County offensive attack with two hits apiece. Another Magoffin County batter, Alexis Montgomery, drove in two runs on a double for the Lady Hornets. 

Magoffin County pitcher Holly Handshoe worked a complete game and earned the win.
