INEZ - Continuing to prepare for the opening kickoff of the 2018 high school football season, Magofifn County faced host Sheldon Clark in a scrimmage on the road in Martin County on Friday, Aug. 10. Magoffin County fared well throughout the preseason game, building some momentum heading into the upcoming campaign.

"We played well this past Friday," said Magoffin County Coach Justin Combs. "Our defense looked good but we have to hurry and get lined up. It seemed like we were in slow motion getting lined up. Nick Caldwell played very well and I limited touches for Brady Whitaker and Matthew Watkins  but they also had a great scrimmage as well. We made some mistakes, But the mistakes I saw are fixable mistakes so that’s a positive."

Magoffin County's 2018 schedule is made up of regular-season games versus East Carter, Lawrence County, East Ridge, Betsy Layne, Harlan, Powell County, Morgan County, Knott County Central, Estill County an Breathitt County. The Hornets compete with Powell County, Breathitt County, Estill County, Knott County Central and Morgan County in Class 3A, District 7. Former champion Magoffin County is picked to finish fourth in Class 3A, District 7.

Magoffin County resumed preseason practice at the state of the week and will host Meet the Hornets on Thursday.
