Wreck on 40 yields arrest

OIL SPRINGS – A Salyersville woman is behind bars and facing multiple charges after a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday morning in Johnson County.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on August 22, Maria Crum, 43, of Salyersville, reportedly was traveling west on KY Rt. 40 when she crossed the center line and hit another car head-on. The five occupants of the other car, as well as Crum, all had to be taken to the hospital, with two of the people from the other car transferred to Pikeville Medical Center.

Crum was arrested later in the morning and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence (first offense), no registration plates, no registration receipt, failure of owner to maintain required insurance (first offense), driving on DUI suspended license (first offense) and five counts of first-degree assault. 

Johnson County Sheriff Department is working the case.
