SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County landed in the win column for the first time in the 2018 high school football season in Week 2. The Hornets blanked visiting East Ridge 41-0 on Friday night.

Brady Whitaker led Magoffin County to the victory. Whitaker rushed 15 times for 229 yards and three touchdowns.

With the win, Magoffin County improved to 1-2.

East Ridge dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

Magoffin County Coach Justin Combs will look for his team to continue to improve

"Offensively, we still made a few mistakes," said Combs. "Snaps over our head in the red zone, we have to clean all that up if we want to be successful. Our backs ran the ball hard and did a great job keeping their eyes up this week. Defensively, we have made great strides this season and we want to keep getting better each week on the defensive side of the ball."

Magoffin County moved ahead early and never faltered, pulling away to defeat East Ridge convincingly.

Grayson Lanning rushed four times for 70 yards and one touchdown for the Hornets. A key contributor for Magoffin County, Lanning hauled in one reception for a touchdown.

Nick Caldwell (eight caries for 61 yards), Mason Lovely (five carries for 31 yards and one touchdown) and Matthew Watkins (four carries for 27 yards) also excelled for Magoffin County in the rushing column.

Through the air, Magoffin County quarterback Lucas Litteral completed one of three passes for an 11-yard touchdown.

East Ridge remained scoreless in the 2018 season. Through two games, opponents have outscored the Warriors 85-0.

The Hornets entered the win column following back-to-back losses to East Carter and Lawrence County.

Magoffin County is slated to host Betsy Layne on Friday, Sept. 7.
