ARREST MADE DURING PARENT PICKUP AT SCHOOL

SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County woman was arrested last week after picking up a child while reportedly intoxicated.

According to the arrest citation, on August 15, Salyersville Police Department Officer Mike Nickels was called by a school official reporting a female was picking up a child and that she appeared to be “not acting normal,” telling the officer what she was driving as she left Salyersville Grade School.

Officer Nickels stopped the car at the top of the hill on Hornets Drive, noting the driver, identified as Shauna B. Puckett, 42, of Salyersville, was not wearing her seatbelt, nor was the child.

Nickels reported that Puckett had slurred speech and appeared to be on some medicine. She told police she had been to the doctor for her teeth, but she had not taken any medications from the doctor. She told Nickels she had taken “some other meds,” though she would not say where she got them, according to the arrest citation.

Puckett reportedly failed field sobriety tests and consented to having blood drawn, which was sent to the Kentucky State Police lab for further drug testing.

Puckett was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on the charges of operating a vehicle with expired operator’s license, failure to wear seat belts, operating a motor vehicle under the influence (1st), failure to produce insurance card and endangering the welfare of a minor. She has since been released, pending future court dates.

The Division of Protection and Permanency and Salyersville Police Chief Neil Adams were contacted about the case due to a small child being in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.
