SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County has its schedule for the 2023 high school football season partially completed.
Currently, Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 8. After making an appearance in the Class 3A Strate Playoffs, Magoffin County exited the 2022 high school football season 4-7. The Hornets’ 2022 regular season schedule includes games versus Breathitt County, Prestonsburg, Knott County Central, Bellevue, Lawrence County, Belfry, Floyd Central, Pike County Central, Clay County and Morgan County. Magoffin County notched wins over Knott County Central, Bellevue, Floyd Central and Morgan County during the 2022 high school football season.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) is set to discuss football realignment at its next Board of Control meeting in January.
“We have our 2023 schedule partially completed,” commented Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett. “I am anxious to see what the KHSAA comes up with in its realignment plan in January. We will open up the 2023 season against host Montgomery County in the Recreation Bowl. Coach (Michael) Caba was nice enough to extend us an invite. He has ties to us in that his father, Mick Caba, was a coach here at Magoffin County. Several of his former players have players coming up through our system now. He was a dandy coach. I hope to see him at our game.”
Several talented players are due to return to the field for Magoffin County in the 2023 high school football season. Magoffin County will finalize and release its 2023 schedule later in the offseason.
