SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County General Election returns mirrored state results on Tuesday night, predominately choosing the Republican candidates in every race except the governor’s election.
Voter turnout was down to approximately 33% in Magoffin, to be expected with no local races on the ballot, compared to the statewide voter turnout of 38.08%.
Incumbent Governor Andy Beshear (D) and Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman narrowly secured Magoffin County with 1,577 votes, compared to 1,553 votes for current Attorney General Daniel Cameron (R) and running mate Robert M. “Robby” Mills. Statewide, the race remained tight, with Beshear winning with 53% of the votes, compared to 47% for Cameron.
For the other five state races, Magoffin County leaned red, as did the state, reelecting incumbent Secretary of State Michael Adams (R), and majority voting for Russell Coleman (R) for attorney general, Allison Ball (R) for auditor of public accounts, Mark H. Metcalf for state treasurer, and Jonathan Shell for Commissioner of Agriculture.
