SALYERSVILLE – Several Magoffin County court cases were settled on May 16, with sentencings issued in multiple cases.
On May 16, Circuit Judge Kimberley Childers signed a judgment and sentence on a plea of guilty from Matthew Carr, 37, of Merlin Taulbee Road, in Salyersville, who appeared in open court on May 1, pleading guilty to the charge of possession of a controlled substance, first degree, first offense, methamphetamine, admitting to committing the offense on March 12, 2024. The court deemed that he is eligible for probation, and accepted the guilty plea, sentencing Carr to three years imprisonment, to be probated for a period of three years under heightened supervision and to pay the court costs of $130.
Vanessa Stacy, 46, of Talcum, KY, also submitted a guilty plea on May 1, in her case, pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance, first degree, first offense, methamphetamine (Class D felony), which was reportedly committed on March 7, 2024. With the plea deal, three other charges against her were dismissed. She was also found eligible for probation, and sentenced to three years imprisonment, probated for three years under heightened supervision, and to pay court costs.
Sigsbee Rowe, 50, of Middle Fork Road, Salyersville, entered his guilty plea on May 1, as well, taking a plea deal and admitting to receiving stolen property $10,000+ (Class C felony) and prohibited sale/receipt of a vehicle (Class D felony), which was reportedly committed on January 30, 2024. With the plea deal, two of the charges against him were dismissed. Judge Childers accepted the plea, sentencing him to five years imprisonment for each count, to run concurrently, and to be probated for a period of five years. He was also ordered to pay the person who owned the camper he had stolen restitution in the amount of $4,675, with $4,000 already paid prior to sentencing. He is also to have no contact with the victim and victim’s family.
Judge Childers issued two sentencings on Robert Miller, 37, of Meadows Branch Road, in Salyersville, who had pleaded guilty on May 1 to the charge of convicted felon in possession of a handgun (Class C felony) in one case, and trafficking in a controlled substance, first degree, first offense, greater than two grams of methamphetamine (Class C felony), with another charge dismissed per the plea agreement. Both charges had stemmed from actions committed on February 6, 2022. He was sentenced to five years in prison in both cases, to run concurrently with each other.
Joseph Isaac, 41, of Flat Fork Road, Salyersville, also entered into a plea deal on May 1, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, first degree, first offense, heroin (Class D felony), which had been committed on November 6, 2023. Per the plea agreement, Childers sentenced Isaac to three years in prison to be diverted for a period of three years, to be supervised by the Division of Probation and Parole.
Bryan Benton, 49, of Scott Ave., Salyersville, pleaded guilty on May 1 to one amended count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (Class D felony), which was committed on November 13, 2023. Per the plea agreement, he was sentenced to two years and one day in prison, with credit for time served, as well as ordered to pay court costs.
