Amanda Francis “Mandy” Prater, age 88, a resident of Arnett Drive in Salyersville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025 at her home peacefully.
Amanda was born July 9, 1936, in Salyersville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Oscar and Florance Lemaster Gullett. First husband, John Howard Jr., second husband, Lucian N. Prater, five brothers, fours sisters, son in laws, Frankie Howard, Christopher McGarey, also preceded in death.
Amanda was a homemaker and a cherished member to her family and friends. She was a member of the Salyersville First Baptist Church in Salyersville, Kentucky. She was an avid gardener and loved to share the many blessings from it. She was known for her cooking and baking, especially her macaroni and cheese, chicken and dumplings, and green beans. Her homemade Christmas cookies made with love will never be forgotten.
Those left to mourn is daughters, Florance Marie Howard of Elkhart, Indiana, Dora Ann Collett and husband Jerry of Salyersville, Kentucky, Gay Dawn McGarey of Lexington, Kentucky, sons, Danny Ray Howard and wife Haroletta of Salyersville, Kentucky, Johnnie “Junior” Howard and companion Darlene Daniels of Louisa, Kentucky, grandchildren, Jackie Gibbs, Johnny Howard, Tommy Campbell, Amanda Howard, Brandy Howard, Joshua Howard, Jeremy Collett, Jennifer Howard, Sarah Foster, Morgan McGarey, great grandchildren, Jordan Gibbs, Josie Gibbs, Isabella Howard, Keaton Howard, Emily Howard, Haley Howard, Dawson Foster, Lexi Holbrook, Aubree Howard, Addy Howard, Bailey Kitts, Peyton Howard, Dakota Daniels, two great-great grandchildren, a host of family and friends who love and miss her.
Funeral services for Amanda Francis “Mandy” Prater were conducted Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from Salyersville First Baptist Church on Dixie Avenue in Salyersville, Kentucky. Clergy Ben Martin delivered comforting words on the day of service. Interment followed in the Gardner Cemetery in Salyersville, Kentucky. Contributions can be made to the Salyersville First Church in her honor.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Salyersville Funeral Home in Salyersville, Kentucky.
