JACKSON, Ky. – A project begins Monday, Aug. 19, to replace a bridge on KY 3334 (Old Lick Creek Road) in Magoffin County that was closed in mid-May after an inspection revealed significant deterioration of the bridge beams.
The bridge crossing Brushy Fork at milepoint 1.1 was barricaded, and signs were placed warning of the closure, but drivers have been moving the barricades and driving over the closed structure.
The replacement project will require the existing bridge to be removed. The new bridge will be built in its place.
Until the new bridge is opened to traffic, motorists can use KY 2019, US 460, KY 40, and KY 1081 to the south, or KY 2019 and KY 1081 to the north, as detour routes while the bridge is closed. No timetable has yet been established to reopen the bridge.
Approximately 130 vehicles use this section of KY 3334 each day.
