JOHNSON FORK – A member of the Magoffin County Fiscal Court was cited over the weekend by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife on charges related to allegedly shooting a deer from inside his vehicle.
According to the citation, on the morning of Saturday, November 8, Fish and Wildlife Resources Officer T. Davis received a complaint that a 12-point whitetail buck deer had been shot from a vehicle on U.S. 460 at Johnson Fork. The person who had reported the alleged incident gave Fish and Wildlife a description of the vehicle, along with a license plate number, and positively identified the driver as Eddie Alvin Jenkins, 45, of Salyersville, who currently is the District 2 magistrate on the Magoffin County Fiscal Court.
Officer Davis interviewed Jenkins and asked him what had occurred that day, according to the citation, at which time Jenkins reportedly confessed to killing the buck and shooting it out the window of his truck from the roadway on the reporting person’s property. The person told law enforcement that Jenkins did not have permission to hunt on their property.
Jenkins was cited with four charges: illegal take/pursue deer/wild turkey, discharge firearm/OTH device across public road. Taking wildlife from a vehicle, and entry on land to shoot/hunt/fish/trap without consent, first offense.
Jenkins was given a court date in the misdemeanor case for December 29 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment hearing.
