Dogs saved from fire; home and contents a total loss

Photo from DONNA STEPHENS District 3 Fire Fighter Conner Risner suited up and entered the flame-filled structure on Saturday, saving the owners’ two dogs before the fire destroyed the home.

ROYALTON – Neighbors heard what they would later learn was ammunition exploding inside of a Royalton home that was on fire, leading them to call 911.

The home of Jacob Skaggs, who has been a fire fighter with District 3 Volunteer Fire Department (D3VFD), was on fire, though the family was not home at the time.

Two small dogs were home, however, and Conner Risner, with the D3VFD, suited up and entered the home, saving the two small dogs.

The home, while it is still standing, is essentially a total loss, including everything inside with the exception of a few personal effects.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen area, but the home was uninsured, as were most of their personal belongings.
