Doyle Minix

Doyle Minix, age 73, of Springport, Michigan, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 19, 2025. Doyle was born on May 19, 1952, in Paintsville, Kentucky, and was a cherished son of Clyde and Icie (Rowe) Minix. He grew up with five sisters and five brothers. Doyle graduated from Salyersville High School in 1970.

On January 27, 1973, Doyle married the love of his life, Marcella Scutchfield, in Albion, Michigan. They shared 52 years of life’s adventures including raising three children: Rhonda (Derek) Hummel of Rochester, Indiana, Doyletta Minix of Dallas, Texas, and Andrew (Trisha) Minix of Albion, Michigan. Their family grew further with the blessings of five grandchildren: Keith (Kaleigh) Hummel, Brittany (Brendan) Hummel, Wyatt (Briana) Minix, Urban Padilla, and Elijah Padilla, along with five great-grandchildren: Gannon Hummel, Winslow Chaney-Hummel, Iris Hummel, Ivy Trunk, and Giovanni Minix.

Doyle was a member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church and a retired millwright from Local 1102 Detroit. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time in Michigan’s great outdoors. He enjoyed collecting baseball hats, all of them held a special place in his collection, with his favorite being a blue and white Kentucky Wildcats hat. Doyle deeply cherished his family and the time spent with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews was always precious to him. He took great pride in his heritage and childhood home in Eastern Kentucky often sharing memories of growing up in the hills of Appalachia.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Icie Minix; five brothers: Alvis Minix, Lester Minix, Hager Minix, Harold Minix, and Donald Minix; and three sisters: Joyce Davis, Helen Mulholland, and Doris Ann Davis. He is survived by his wife, Marcella; his children; grandchildren; two sisters, Iris Manns of Knox, Indiana, and Charlotte Jackson of Salyersville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

A service honoring Doyle’s life was held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Freewill Baptist Church, 16680 W. Michigan Ave., Albion, Michigan, 49224. The family accepted visitors one hour prior to the service as well as on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church. Following the service Doyle was laid to rest at Springport Cemetery followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Freewill Baptist Church.
