DRUG BUST ON BURNING FORK

BURNING FORK – A Magoffin County man was picked up on Burning Fork on Monday night after police saw him in a car, knowing he had an active indictment warrant.

According to the arrest citation, on September 9, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputies N. Watson, D. Watson and T. Lafferty were sitting at the Bradley Church on Burning Fork, discussing setting up a safety checkpoint when they noticed Charles Monroe McGuire, 48, of Salyersville, as a passenger of a vehicle. Knowing he had an active warrant, the officers conducted a traffic stop.

McGuire reportedly reached police an ID belonging to someone else, at which time police removed him from the vehicle. He was placed in handcuffs and informed he was under arrest for falsely identifying himself to police. After police confirmed his name, he was also informed he was arrested on two existing warrants.

The driver of the vehicle consented to a search, and upon searching McGuire’s belongings, deputies found: a 9mm pistol, 40.37 grams of rocky-type substance believed to be methamphetamine, 39.07 grams of a crystal-type substance believed to be methamphetamine, 42.33 grams of marijuana, one brown vile containing an unknown drug substance, three sets of digital scales, one glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue, according to the citation.

McGuire was taken into custody and transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where he remains at press time, facing the following new charges: possession of a handgun by a convicted felon; first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second or greater offense (greater than or equal to 2 grams methamphetamine); first-degree possession of a controlled substance, second offense, drug unspecified and giving officer false identifying information.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
