PUNCHEON – A fatal one-vehicle accident was discovered on Thursday morning on Puncheon after family members started searching for the man when he not been heard from since Wednesday evening.
On February 25 the body of a 59-year-old Magoffin man was found in the car only feet from his driveway, with the vehicle believed to have drifted off the roadway and overturned on its side into the creek.
Magoffin County Deputy Coroner Brian Parker told Mortimer Media Group there were no signs of blunt force trauma and that the weather and cold water were believed to have played a part in his death.
Marcus Risner, age 59, of Magoffin, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Magoffin County Coroner’s Office.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the initial investigation indicated Risner was operating a 2002 Toyota van on Puncheon Creek Road, when Risner’s vehicle exited the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned.
KSP Trooper Jimmie Stratton is investigating the collision and was assisted on scene by Lifeguard Ambulance Service and the Magoffin County Rescue Squad.
