Fatal wreck on US 460

WHITE OAK – Two people died as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Saturday, April 24, on US 460 between Salyersville and West Liberty, with one person still hospitalized.

According to the press release from Kentucky State Police, Morgan County Dispatch called for assistance just after 4 p.m.

Through KSP’s investigation, it was determined that Jacob Patrick, 26, from Salyersville, was traveling east on US 460 while operating a 2006 Ford F150. Investigators believe Patrick traveled into the westbound lane, striking a 2016 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Larry Holbrook, 72, from West Liberty, and his passenger, Dorothy Holbrook, 79, also of West Liberty.

The Licking Valley Courier’s Miranda Cantrell reported that the West Liberty Police Department’s dispatch showed that individuals at Oldfield Trailer Park, near where the wreck occurred, attempted to remove the Holbrooks from their vehicle and provide first aid. According to the LVC, WLPD dispatchers also noted that the trailer park residents also attempted to turn over Patrick’s truck, which had flipped during the crash and come to rest on its side.

Patrick and Dorothy Holbrook were transported via ambulance to Morgan County ARH, where Morgan County Coroner Raymond Vancleave pronounced them deceased.

Larry Holbrook was taken via ambulance to St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, then later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, where he remains at press time, according to the LVC.

According to Dorothy Holbrook’s obituary, Larry was her husband.

US 460 was closed for several hours while KSP reconstructed the collision. Reportedly, rainy weather conditions prevented an Air Evac medical helicopter from responding to the wreck.

The collision remains under investigation by KSP Post 8, with other responding agencies including Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the Morgan County Rescue Squad, West Liberty Fire Department and White Oak Fire Department.

According to the LVC, Patrick was an employee of Lion Apparel in West Liberty and had reportedly left work at the factory before the wreck.

Patrick’s full obituary can be found on A4 of this week’s paper.

Dorothy Holbrook’s funeral will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021, from the Potter Funeral Home in West Liberty.
