STATEWIDE – As the leaves turn, it’s time for forest fire hazard season.
By state statute, from October 1 to December 15, outdoor burning is restricted between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland. These rules aren’t just red tape—they’re here to protect our homes, our forests, and our first responders.
During this time period, people are asked to:
• Holding off on burning until after 6 PM
• Keeping water and tools nearby if you must burn
• Never leaving a fire unattended
• Reporting any suspicious smoke or fire activity
Burn bans are common during this time period, so be sure to stay up-to-date with any potential bans by following local government officials, and all will be reported in the SI, as well as on our Salyersville Independent Facebook. At press time, no bans are in place in Magoffin.
