Homer Joseph

Homer Joseph, age 86, of Marion, died peacefully on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield, Ohio.

On May 24, 1934, Homer was born in Salyersville, Kentucky, the youngest of four children of the late Hager and Mamie (Arnett) Joseph.

While growing up, Homer spent a lot of time with a young lady from the neighborhood, Ruth Blevins. Once they were old enough, they got married on October 19, 1954, and started their family. They moved to La Porte Indiana for a short time, before moving to Marion, Ohio, in 1956, where he found work with the Marion Water Company. They cherished their 60 years together and lovingly raised four children. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2015.

At the Marion Water Company, Homer started by digging ditches and worked his way up to being the City Line Supervisor. He worked for the water company for nearly 40 years, retiring from the Ohio American Water Company in 1994.

Homer was deeply dedicated to the Marion Masonic Lodge #70, where he went through all of the chairs and served as Grandmaster for many years. The Lodge was very important to him, and if there was something going on there you could count on him being involved. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Marion Lions Club.

With an appreciation for the lifestyle of the Amish, Homer enjoyed making two horse wagons, better known as horse and buggies. He also enjoyed engineering, woodworking, and restoring things to give it new life. He also had an extensive firearms collection.

Homer and Ruth often traveled to the Carolinas to enjoy some sand beneath their toes. They also enjoyed visiting Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and eating out.

Very outgoing, Homer had a warm, engaging personality, making friends quickly.

Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Michael (Laura) Joseph, Theresa (Lawrence) Hendricks, all of Meeker, Andrew (Terry) Joseph of Marion, and Hager “Brad” (Lesa) Joseph of Meeker; five grandchildren: April Joseph, Michelle (Tim) Bidwell, Danielle (Jamie) Berridge, and Tyler and Andrew Joseph; 8 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Buck Joseph of Salyersville, KY; and a brother, Kenneth Joseph of Portsmouth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including his wife and parents, Homer was preceded in death by two siblings: Farish Joseph and Lucille Henderson.

Services honoring Homer’s life will be observed privately by his family in Meeker Cemetery, with Rev. Rhett Crabtree officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Masonic Lodge #70, 119 W Church St, Marion, OH 43302.
