SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County compiled the seventh-best record among 15th Region teams during the 2021 high school baseball season.
The Hornets, under the direction of head coach Jacob Litteral, showed much improvement during the latest prep baseball campaign.
Magoffin County finished ahead of Pike County Central (14-14), Floyd Central (13-19), Martin County (14-20), East Ridge (11-18), Shelby Valley (10-22), Phelps (8-12), Betsy Layne (6-18) and Jenkins (4-20) in the final 2021 15th Region baseball win-loss records.
Prestonsburg (18-10), Pikeville (19-16), Belfry (23-12), Johnson Central (26-14), Paintsville (27-11) and Lawrence County (29-7) each compiled a better record than Magoffin County during the 2021 high school baseball season.
Johnson Central captured the 2021 15th Region baseball championship. The Golden Eagles pulled away to defeat Lawrence County 8-3 in the 2021 15th Region Baseball Tournament title game at East Ridge High School in Pike County.
After claiming the 15th Region championship, Johnson Central lost to Hazard in a semi-state matchup at Morehead State University on Saturday, June 12. Hazard battled back from behind to beat Johnson central 3-2.
As a team, Magoffin County batted .303 during the 2021 high school baseball season.
Lucas Literal (.455), Trenton Coleman (.420). Caleb Howard (.366), Ethan Salyer (.329) and Ian Prewitt (.296) ranked as Magoffin County’s top five hitters in the 2021 season.
Lucas Litteral and Ethan Prewitt were Magoffin County’s top two pitchers during the latest prep baseball campaign.
