HINDMAN – Continuing to win, Magoffin County upended Knott County Central 38-32 in a high school football game on Friday, Sept. 3.
Magoffin County moved to 2-0 after notching the win.
Following the loss, Knott County Central dropped to 1-1.
The Hornets and Patriots are non-district rivals.
Quarterback Lucas Litteral led Magoffin County to the non-district win. Litteral completed nine of 16 passes for 179 yards and four touchdowns. The Magoffin County quarterback, who threw one interception, rushed 20 times for 117 yards and one touchdown.
Grayson Whitaker (three catches for 63 yards, one touchdown), Aden Barnett (three catches for 62 yards, two touchdowns) and Brad Standifer (three catches for 41 yards, one touchdown) were each on the receiving end of at least one scoring pass for visiting Magoffin County.
Collectively, the Hornets rushed 33 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
Ben Lafferty added another rushing touchdown for the Hornets.
Lafferty (12 tackles, two tackles for a loss, one sack), Jacob Allen (12 tackles, one tackle for a loss) and Curtis Jenkins (10 tackles, two tackles for a loss) combined to lead Magoffin County’s defensive effort.
Contributing on the defensive side, Grayson Whitaker delivered an interception for the Hornets.
Quarterback Kizer Slone paced Knott County Central, completing 15 of 29 pass attempts for 264 yards and three touchdowns. Slone threw one interception.
Chuck Mullins was Slone’s top target, reeling in five receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
Following Mullins, Ethan Combs hauled in four receptions for 53 yards and one touchdown for the Patriots.
The Patriots rushed 28 times for 150 yards and one touchdown.
Leading Knott County Central on the ground, Jonte Clayton rushed nine times for 55 yards.
Behind Clayton, Logan Thomas rushed six times for 41 yards and one touchdown for the Patriots.
Defensively for Knott County Central, Thomas and Clayton Whitaker recorded 11 tackles apiece.
Providing a lift for Knott County Central in the secondary, Mullins returned an interception for a touchdown.
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Bellevue on Friday, Sept. 10.
