Indictments released

SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County grand jury released the following indictments this week, handed down on September 4 and released as the defendants were served:

Kayla Risner, 32, of Johnson Fork Road, in Salyersville, is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, methamphetamine (Class D felony); first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, fentanyl (Class D felony); possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor); and second-degree persistent felony offender (penalty enhancement). According to the indictment, on or about June 15, 2025, Risner allegedly possessed quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as items used for the purpose of consuming the controlled substances. She was previously convicted with a felony in a 2024 case.

Jeana Burchett, 38, of Roberts Drive, in Salyersville, is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, methamphetamine (Class D felony); first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, fentanyl (Class D felony); and possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor). According to the indictment, on or about June 15, 2025, Burchett allegedly possessed quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as items used for the purpose of consuming the controlled substances.

According to the original arrest citations, the two were pulled over during a traffic stop very early in the morning on June 15 this year, and police confiscated several bags and containers with various controlled substances, as well as syringes and a tourniquet.

Indictments are only released to the public after the defendants have been served.
