James Wilbur “Bubo” Carty, age 79, a resident of Old Bend Branch in Salyersville, Kentucky; passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky.
James “Bubo” Carty was born February 18, 1946 at Paintsville Hospital in Paintsville, Kentucky the son of the late Silas and Desadrea Montgomery Carty. Sister, Wilma Faye DeWeese also preceded in death.
James “Bubo” served his country in the United States Army and is a Veteran of the Vietnam War prior to being honorable discharged. He’s a graduate of Salyersville High School and Mayo Technical College. Bubo was employed as an electrician in the IBEW Union #369 out of Louisville, Kentucky until retirement. He was a member of the Carty Primitive Baptist Church in Salyersville, Kentucky, a Brother of the Masonic Lodge #769 F&AM in Salyersville, Kentucky, and the Magoffin County DAV Chapter.
Those left to mourn includes wife, Phyllis Jean Arnett Carty, whom married him on May 15, 1969, daughter, Melissa Carty Hines of Salyersville, Kentucky, son, Jeffery Neil Carty of Salyersville, Kentucky, sister, Donna Raye Yockel of Winter Park, Florida, brother, Larry Carty and wife Mary of Salyersville, Kentucky, grandsons, Christopher Neil Carty of New Albany, Indiana, Trey Matthew Hines of Salyersville, Kentucky, a host of family and friends who love and miss him.
Funeral services for James Wilbur “Bubo” Carty were conducted Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from the Carty Primitive Baptist Church on Craft Creek in Salyersville, Kentucky. Clergy Dan Ison and David Gamble delivered comforting words on the day of service. Interment followed in the Silas Montgomery Cemetery on Craft Creek in Salyersville, Kentucky.
Military Rites will be given by the Magoffin County Chapter DAV on the day of service from the church.
