SALYERSVILLE – The jury trial for a Magoffin County man facing charges related to sexually abusing a minor is set for later this month.
Matthew Tackett, 43, of Salyersville, had a preliminary hearing last week, confirming his jury trial is set to begin on April 14 in Knott County Circuit Courtroom before Judge Kimberley Childers.
His wife, Ashley Tackett, was also in court last week, but no longer had legal representation, with Judge Childers giving her 30 days to find a new attorney, setting her next court date for April 24, also in Knott County.
The two were indicted in November 2023, with Matthew Tackett charged with two counts of first-degree sodomy, victim under 12 years of age (Class A felonies); first-degree rape, victim under 12 years of age (Class A felony); and four counts of first-degree sexual abuse, victim under 12 years of age (Class C felonies). Ashley Tackett is charged with complicity of first-degree sexual abuse, victim under 12 years of age (Class C felony).
Matthew Tackett remains out on bond and Ashley Tackett was only issued a summons to court in the case. The two previously pleaded not guilty to all charges.
