Magoffin man facing federal charges

PIKEVILLE – A Magoffin County man was federally indicted last Thursday on firearm and drug charges related to a Johnson County arrest made in January.

On January 7, 2025, Tyler C. Isaac, 29, of Mud Lick Road, in Salyersville, was arrested by Johnson County Sheriff Scott Hazlette after police were able to recover a stolen Jeep out of Lawrence County during a traffic stop. At that time, Isaac was charged with receiving stolen property $1,000 < $10,000; persistent felony offender II; failure of non-owner operator to maintain required ins/sec, first offense; no registration receipt; no registration plates.

Hazlette took the case to the Johnson County Grand Jury, who indicted him, but when Kentucky State Police went to serve the arrest warrant for the indictment, they reportedly recovered a firearm and amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl from Isaac, resulting in the federal charges.

On May 22, Isaac was federally indicted and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession with the intent to distribute a methamphetamine mixture. According to the indictment, Isaac, having previously been convicted of a felony, knowingly possessed a firearm (a Ruger 9mm pistol), as well as knowingly and intentionally possessed with the intent to distribute controlled substances, including a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, and a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance.

At press time, Isaac is a state inmate in La Grange due to reportedly breaking his parole conditions is separate cases from Morgan and Magoffin counties.
