Man arrested for allegedly pawning stolen tools

MIDDLE FORK – A Floyd County man was arrested last week for allegedly pawning stolen items last year.

According to the arrest citation, Brian Austin Watson, 29, of Prestonsburg, but formerly of Salyersville, was picked up on May 1 on Kentucky Rt. 30 on an arrest warrant issued in October 2024.

Salyersville Police Department Chief Neil Adams reported in an arrest warrant, issued on October 31 last year, he was contacted by the owner of a local pawn show regarding stolen items that had been pawned by Watson. The owner had a pawn receipt showing Watson visited the pawn shop on July 17, 2024, and pawned a Dewalt 1/2” hammer drill with battery and charger, valued at $250; a Milwaukee pipe cutter, valued at $4,400; and a Milwaukee pipe crimper, valued at $4,400. According to the receipts, Watson reportedly received $75 for the pawned items.

The owners of the pawned items had been notified that some of their tools may be on the shelf for purchase at the pawn shop, and the victim’s father went to the shop to identify the items, bringing serial numbers and showing ownership as his, indicated to Chief Adams he did not give Watson permission to take any of the items.

Watson was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where he has since been released, and charged with two felony counts of receiving stolen property greater than $1,000 but less than $10,000, and one misdemeanor charge of receiving stolen property.
