Man arrested on a DUI with child in car

David Austin Dotson

WEST MAPLE ST. – In Salyersville, David Austin Dotson, 29, of Sugar Camp Road, in Salyersville, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and wanton endangerment after authorities say they found him under the influence with a child inside the vehicle. Salyersville Police Department officers received a call in the area of West Maple Street late last week, with the caller reporting a person who appeared to be under the influence operating a vehicle with a small child inside the same vehicle.

The Salyersville Police Department reported finding Dotson behind the wheel of the vehicle, with the vehicle in gear, and noting there was a strong odor of alcohol. Dotson reportedly failed all field sobriety tests given and arrested. The blood alcohol test given showed he blew almost exactly two times the legal limit, at 0.158, according to the citation.

He is facing the charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence (aggravating circumstances) and first-degree wanton endangerment. He was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center and released on bond the next day, pending future court dates.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
