SALYERSVILLE – A Pike County man leaving a local gas station accidentally shot himself on Sunday.
Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy Eugene Salyer told Mortimer Media Group a Pike County man was leaving the Double Kwik on the Mountain Parkway and walking to his car with a .25 caliber semi-automatic in his pocket. Reportedly, he put his hand in his pocket and the gun went off, with the bullet hitting him in the leg and exiting out of the foot.
According to law enforcement, the man started to drive off to seek medical assistance, but started to lose consciousness and crashed into metal poles near the dumpster at the gas station.
When police arrived, he was conscious and alert, and was taken by ambulance to a local area hospital.
His condition is unknown at press time.
