LICK CREEK – A Magoffin man was arrested on Sunday evening after allegedly threatening to burn his parent’s house with them inside.

According to the arrest citation, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy Donavon Watson received a call on June 8 from the parents of Matthew Helton, 46, of Salyersville, reporting that their son had been to their home and threatened to burn their house and block them in it.

Watson then heard the front door open and asked the man if that was Matthew exiting the front door and the man reportedly just looked at the officer, according to the arrest citation.

Watson ran around the side of the house and wase able to locate Helton attempting to flee. He told him to stop and get on the ground, and Helton told Watson he didn’t’ do anything wrong and he wasn’t getting on the ground, according to the citation.

Deputy Watson was able to grab Helton, who then tensed up and Watson was able to assist him to the ground, but he still attempted to resist arrest.
